Catching Up With…John Nosek ‘68

John graduated from Curley in 1968 and continued his education at the Community College of Baltimore.  After two years at CCB, he transferred to the University of Baltimore where he received his BS in Business and Management in 1973, a Masters of Public Administration in 1983, and a Certificate in Accounting in 1988.  During this time he worked for the University of Maryland Hospital, University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, The School of Nursing and The School of Dentistry. Other medical administrator positions have taken him to Washington, DC and Philadelphia.

Now making Greensboro, NC his home,  John has been the Executive Director/CEO of Greensboro Orthopaedics since 1993.  In this role he is responsible for the management of 150 employees supporting 46 healthcare professionals (physicians, physician assistants, and physical therapists) seeing over 135,000 patient visits a year.  In 2006 he was named North Carolina’s Medical Practice Administrator of the Year.  Along the way he has served in various leadership roles for both the North Carolina and the National Medical Group Management Association, and the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives.  On December 31, 2017 John will be retiring after 44 years in the healthcare industry.

During his time in North Carolina, John became involved with local activities especially in Boy Scouts and has two sons who are Eagle Scouts.  Other activities involved serving as an advisory board member to RBC Bank and Newbridge Bank. He also served as a student advisor to the Healthcare Management Program at Appalachian State University and as a guest lecturer to the student chapter of the Medical Group Management Association at the University.

John married the former Catharyn Chiodi and they are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary this year.  His wife is a licensed real estate broker and has had her own property management business for the past 30 years.  They have three children, JB, Tyler and Catharyn.  JB served as a Lieutenant in the USMC and is now in sales. Tyler works for Verizon in sales, and Catharyn is a Lieutenant in the US Navy Nurse Corps and is currently serving in Naples, Italy.

John’s hobbies include reading, theater, photography and spending time at Myrtle Beach.

When reflecting on his Curley experience, John says:  “During my years at Curley, I grew and matured to understand the value of a Catholic education.  Although I did not realize it at that time, I truly became aware of the depth of knowledge that was imparted to me at Curley when I reached college and saw that the Curley educational foundation was head and shoulders above many of my college classmates.  In addition, the virtues of high moral standards and respect that I learned at Curley have served me well in my leadership roles.”

John encourages those seeking a high school to choose Curley. “When so many schools are just pushing academics, scoring well on the SAT and getting into the right college, consider that Curley will give you all of those opportunities, but will also provide you with the skills to be a compassionate leader in your chosen professional field, your community and your life.”
