The annual Reif Alumni Cup Game last week was a victory for Curley over Calvert Hall 5-1. The Alumni Cup is named after Curley's first soccer coach, Bernie Reif, who led the Friars to their first Varsity championship in 1968. Coach Reif's son attended Calvert Hall and is center in the photo at the left. Calvert Hall won the Cup the past two years. This game, which alternates between the schools each year, highlights the rivalry between Curley and Calvert Hall on the soccer field. Last year Calvert Hall defeated Curley in the MIAA A Conference Championship game. The coaches, Barry Stitz for Curley and Rich Zinkand for Calvert Hall, are friends and enjoy the competition.
The game was tight in the first half, with Curley taking a 2-1 lead into the break. An own goal by Calvert Hall unleashed two more goals by the Friars in the second half. Goals for Curley were scored by Stitz, Dragisics, Sidleck and Woodward.
A reception for alumni of both schools was held after the game.
