Bright skies and sunshine greeted Homecoming 2017 at Curley. The Campus was prepared to greet students, parents, alumni and friends at the annual fall event.
The day began early when 29 alumni took to the pitch for the Alumni Soccer Game. They got to relive their past and make new memories and have fun. Jim Loftus '69 was the elder statesman of the group and still has a few moves left. The Varsity team came down for a photo and to pick up some tips as they watched the contest.
The Varsity team then took on Gilman at 11 AM. Pre-game festivities included a recognition of the seniors and their parents. The team did not disappoint the nearly packed house as they cruised to victory 6-0.
Varsity Football kicked off at 2 PM against St. Vincent Pallotti HS from Laurel. Looking for their first victory, the Friars jumped out to a 20-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Pallotti did not give up and was driving to the endzone with 90 seconds to go in the game. Dezmond Myers picked off a Pallotti pass to seal the victory 30-22.
At halftime, six men were inducted into the Curley Athletic Hall of Fame: Tim Doyle '69, Frank Sansosti '71, Tim Norris '78, Sal Aquia '97, Giuliano Celenze '97 and Coach Dan Popera. You can read their bio's on the Hall of Fame page.
The day was capped off with the Student Homecoming Dance. Over 300 Curley students and their dates packed the gym for dancing and socializing.
Homecoming 2017 was, by all accounts, a great success. Curley Spirit and Pride live on in Curley students, parents and alumni.
