For the 2016-17 theatre season, Blackfriars’ Theatre will be paying tribute to two American treasures and icons.
For the Fall Play, November 18th - 20th, we present a stage adaptation of the 1946 movie classic, Frank Capra’s It’s A Wonderful Life.
The heart-warming saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been repeatedly quashed by notions of family obligation and civic duty. We will kick off the holiday season with this classic story which we have all seen so many times. A story that celebrates the American philosophy of life: the hard work, fair play, and the love and support of family and community will be rewarded.
Next spring, the musical will also celebrate another American treasure and icon – this one from the world of comic strips.
The comic strip began in 1950 and ran continuously for 50 years until February 2000 when its creator Charles M. Schutz passed away. It has remained in publication for the last 17 years through reruns. The comic strip of course, is Peanuts.
The weekend of March 17th – 19th , Blackfriars will present the Broadway Musical “You’re A Good Man Charlie Man” which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017.
We hope you will join us for both productions as we celebrate two of America’s treasures.
