ARCHBISHOP CURLEY VOLLEYBALL
2012-13 SEASON SUMMARY
Even with these obstacles our 15 man squad of 12 Seniors and 3 Juniors worked
very hard to make solid competitive showing every match. As usual some of our best
showings were against traditional "B" conference powers, St. Paul's and Boys' Latin, as
we pushed these top notch squads to the limit every time before falling short on the
scoreboard. Highlights of the season were two victories against "A" conference
opponent John Carroll, including a thrilling five set win on Senior Day at home to
conclude the season.
The team was led by all around standout Pat McMann, setter Andrew Baker and
Libero Matt Piluk. Setter Phil Kyger, with outside hitter Austin Woodruff, were Curley's
top offensive threat. They were complemented by hitters Randy Noppinger and Nick
Kelly, also a top server. Anthony Puglisi was a valuable back line passer in the starting
lineup and Alex Richardson served as a key sub for all positions. Seniors Jim Bonner,
Adam Macek and Glen Davis provided front line support while Ryan Fongheiser and
Shawn Stallings backed up in all around positions. Junior James Matens provided depth
in the setting spot.
Pat McMann and Matt Piluk were recognized after the season as members of the All
"B" Conference squad, as voted on by opposing coaches.
While 12 Seniors will graduate, the program returns 18 players from both JV and
Varsity to form a solid nucleus for next year.
The Junior Varsity, under first year coach, Rebecca Reed, made an excellent
showing in the "A" conference JV league as they took the floor with 6 Sophomores and
9 freshmen. Only three of these fifteen had ever played competitive volleyball before.
Excellent effort kept this group in their matches all season long. We look for good things
in the future. The JV was led by setters Kerry O'Donnell and Will Syme, all around
players Sean Lynch and Dylan Kohler, hitter Chris Roberts, back line defender Tim
Coffman and Libero Tyler Klein. Contributions also were made on the front line by Gabe
Webster and Joe Gallup as well as serve specialist, Phil Thomas. Defenders Grier Ray,
Sonny McCullough, Alex Caporale, Devon Canady and Josh Lewis all were key
members of this young squad.

COACHING STAFF
Mr. Joseph D'Adamo '70, Varsity Head Coach
Coach D'Adamo is a 1970 alumnus of Curley who went on to Towson University and then to work for Parks and Recreation. He started the Volleyball Program at Curley and has been its only head coach. Mr. D'Adamo is also a Varsity Lacrosse Assistant Coach and teaches Physical Education at St. Clement's Parish School.
