ARCHBISHOP CURLEY TRACK & FIELD
2012-13 SEASON SUMMARY
Despite a 1-4 dual meet record, great improvement was made over last year and as the season progressed more improvement occurred. The Varsity finished 5th out of 12 teams in the MIAA championships , just 2 points away from 4th. The JV was 6th out of 9. Besides the dual meets , Curley was in the top third in all the invitationals attended (Loyola Relays, Fraser Valley Relays, Don Boyer Inv. and Cedar Cliff Relays).
A school record was tied in the 4x400 Relay at the prestigious Penn Relays by Kyle Hunt, Brandon Chambers, Carmelo Barresi, and Robert Smith.
These athletes placed 1st in an individual event or relay during the season: Carmelo Barresi, Antwan Brown, Tory Duckett, Robert Smith, Kyle Hunt, Justin Moultrie, Pat Grove, Zac Benjamin, Erik Meyer, Ed Dunnigan, Damion Butler, Christien Rogers,, Matt Bouldin and Eric Barstad.
2012-13 STUDENT HONORS
Robert Smith -- medalist in hurdles at MIAA'S , sprint medley relay, at Cedar Cliff, 4x400 MIAA'S and relay at Fraser Valley.
Kyle Hunt --. Medalist at Loyola Relays Sprint Medley, MIAA 4x400, relay Fraser Valley, Cedar Cliff Sprint Medley.
Carmelo Barresi-- undefeated in dual meets in 200, medalist at Boyer Inv in 200, Loyola Relays Sprint Medley, Sprint Medley at Cedar Cliff, 4x100 and 4x400 at MIAA'S.
Tory Duckett-- Top JV finisher and point scorer for Curley at MIAA'S
Antwan Brown, Justin Moultrie, and Kyle Simon placed as individuals in the MIAA'S with Pat Grove and Damion Butler adding relay placing.
Ed Dunnigan won individual shot put titles at Loyola Relays and Fraser Valley Relays.
COACHING STAFF
Gene Hoffman '69, Varsity Head Coach
Gene is a '69 graduate of Archbishop Curley High School and a '74 grad of Towson University. He is currently coaching his 99th team at Curley and of these, over 25 have been championship teams. Well over 100 Curley athletes have gone on to compete in college. Coach Hoffman has a long list of personal championships on his resume--former Mason-Dixon Champion in 400 hurdles and 400 relay, 3-times All-American masters hurdler, former South Atlantic Champion in 110 hurdles, triple jump and 4x400 relay, to name a few. Coach Hoffman has also coached the CCBC (Essex) Indoor Track Team and spent 19 years as head field event coach for the Baltimore City Ed Waters Track Club.
