2011-12 STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS
This page is dedicated to those students who exemplify the "gentleman" part of what it means to be a Curley Gentleman. Either through an act of courage or perseverance or kindness or compassion, the student has moved a faculty or staff member to recognize his effort or virtue and bring his action to the attention of the Curley Family. Nominations are submittd to Mrs. Kolb and the student is recognized on this webpage. These students embody the Peace Prayer of St. Francis, "Lord make me an instrument of your peace..."
While some students are recognized on these pages, many more acts of kindness occur without anyone noticing. The satisfaction for doing what is right, or kind, or compassionate, or courageous comes from God who sees all and never forgets.

MATT BAHR '13, MATT JEWELL '13, DOM DELORSO '13
March 2, 2012
These three students were nominated by Mrs. Kennedy for making extraordinary efforts to assist her with some boxes of books. Mrs. Kennedy had set the books aside to be given to an organization which collects used books. When these three gentlemen came through the library collecting paper for recycling after school one day, they were told by a supervisor to recycle those boxes of books as well. Although that worried them, they did as they were told. As they told Mrs. Kennedy later, somehow it didn’t seem right! Later, when Mrs. Kennedy realized that the boxes were missing, she spoke to Matt, Matt and Dom as they came for recycling the next time. They told her that they had put the books into the dumpster for recycled paper several days before that. After she explained what she had intended to do with the books, without telling her, the boys went out to the dumpster and, after several attempts, retrieved all four boxes of books, and even put them in her car for her. She was delighted with their unsolicited initiative, and the extent to which they went above and beyond any call of “duty”. “Really good-hearted kids!!”

SCOTT LANDESS '13
February 6, 2012
Our Student Highlight this week is junior Scott Landess. Scott was nominated by Mr. Williams for being honest.
Recently Scott found a $10 bill on the floor in the hall. Although he could have kept the money.
Scott gave it to Mr. Williams so that it could be returned to the student who lost it.

TRIUMPH MOHAMED '15
December 2, 2011
Our Student Highlight this week is freshman Triumph Mohamed. Triumph was nominated by Mr. McGinty for generosity shown by sharing on Ravens Dress Down Day.
Mr. McGinty said that in class on Purple Friday Triumph noticed that the student sitting next to him was not wearing anything with a Ravens logo on it. That student said that he had forgotten about Purple Friday and so he was in regular dress code. Triumph pulled a Ravens jersey out of his backpack and asked the other student if he wanted to wear it for the day. What an amazing sense of brotherhood!
JULIO FERNANDEZ '12
November 11, 2011
Our Student Highlight this week is senior Julio Fernandez. Julio was nominated by Mrs. Kennedy for helping her as she recovers from surgery.
Mrs. Kennedy said that he has never refused her request for help. He has saved her steps by picking up things at the office for her; bringing in items from her car and doing other little chores. She said, “I would like to applaud his willing spirit and pleasant, helpful manner as he responds to my requests.” To use Mrs. Kennedy’s word Julio is a “charmer”. But he does not charm in conversation only, he uses his actions along with his words to show what a true Curley gentleman he is.
ZACH MERKLEY '12
September 30, 2011
Our first Student Highlight for this year is senior Zach Merkley. Zach was nominated by both Mr. Jancuk and Mr. D’Adamo for assisting Mr. Jancuk over the summer. He was responsible for upgrading 140 school computers. Despite the fact that he had to transport the computers from one location to another he never complained. He was willing to learn whatever was necessary, including the 25-character activation codes for Windows and Office. Utilizing his multi-tasking skills Zach worked on several computers simultaneously. Mr. Jancuk said that Zach was a great worker.
