Proudly Do We Hail Thee is the first documented history of Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore.  This work, commissioned as part of the school’s Golden Anniversary celebration, takes a look at the development of the school from its earliest moments of conception through its current place as a leader in Franciscan secondary education for young men in the Baltimore metropolitan area.  Extensive research through archival material of the school, the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and the archives of the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the St. Anthony of Padua Province makes this a serious scholarly work that is punctuated by extensive interviews with many of the people who are responsible for the school’s birth and growth over the years.  Its genius is its easy accessibility, weaving factual data with anecdotal stories that make the school come alive for the reader, regardless of their affiliation with the school.  In many ways, the copious endnotes are as much worth reading as the text.  The Appendix of the Life of Archbishop Michael J. Curley - Baltimore’s Tenth Archbishop -  is an added bonus offered by Rev. Michael Roach, a local church historian in his own right.  Its title, Proudly Do We Hail Thee, taken from the school’s alma mater composed by the school’s first music teacher Mr. Joseph Miller, speaks of the love and admiration shared by the over 13,000 alumni, friars, parents, faculty, staff and students who have lived the experience that is Archbishop Curley High School.  This is but the first chapter in what will undoubtedly be a long and fruitful history of a school that has made its mark by touching the lives of so many and making a difference in the history of our community and beyond.
