ARCHBISHOP CURLEY LACROSSE
2011-12 SEASON SUMMARY
All of our hours spent on the field as players and coaches led to a very successful 2012 campaign for the Curley Varsity lacrosse team. Our young men prepared extraordinarily well for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win a B Conference lacrosse championship. Assistant coaches Chris Ogle and Joe D'Adamo provided a strategic edge that served our players well when they competed against other programs. In our first year working together as a staff, we were expedient about assessing players and forging relationships with them.
It was with purpose that we scheduled some very difficult opponents early in the season. We struggled against playoff contenders from the MIAA A Conference (Severn), Washington DC (Good Counsel and DeMatha), Anne Arundel (Chesapeake), and Harford Counties (North Harford). There is both benefit and usefulness in playing tough competition. Our disappointment in early season performance turned to joy and we began to improve over the course of the season. A victory over current #1 seed Sts. Peter & Paul propelled our team into the playoffs with a final league record of 6-6 and a solid #4 seed. There have been many contributions to this successful season. Senior Captains Matt Simon and Brady Morris have anchored both ends of the field while underclassmen, Mike Seglinski, Eric Jackson, John Tornabene, Austin Wilson and Corey Foard, have provided incredible work ethic and on-field excellence.
The 2012 edition of Curley lacrosse was characterized by an aggressive, high pressure and attacking style of play. The players within our program need to keep learning how to maximize their abilities in order to keep succeeding. We believe that by giving athletes a framework to play within, and, by communicating clearly and fairly with them, they will be motivated to achieve more as a collective unit, a team, than they ever could as individuals.
Our staff is very grateful for all of the support shown by the parents and school community. With 22 players returning to the Varsity team next season, we are looking forward to continued success.
