MARCH 31, 2012

On March 31 the Curley Gym was transformed into the AC Corral for the 17th Annual Curley Gala.  As the school's major fundraiser of the year, the Dinner-Auction was enjoyed by 445 guests who experienced a delicious meal, inspiring video and spirited bidding.

Nine tables of silent auction gifts offered anything from sports memorabilia to wine to jewelry.  Mr. Jonathan Melnick, auctioneer extraordinaire, led the guests through twenty-nine verbal auction items that included a trip to the 2013 Grammy's, diamond rings and errings and dinner at the Friary.  In the middle of the verbal auction, Fr. Joe Benicewicz OFM Conv, Curley's president and an alum from 1978, received a challenge--if $10, 000 could be raised from the floor at that moment, this anonymous donor would match the number up to $10, 000.  Fr. Joe and Mr. Melnick challenged the Gala participants and over $28,000 was raised from the floor in an incredible display of generosity.

CAR RAFFLE

The highlight of the evening was the car raffle drawing.  Don White's Timonium Chrylser Jeep Dodge donated a car for the raffle. The winning ticket was #17164 and the winner was a Curley junior, Matt Avara, who was present among the tuxedoed student volunteers.  His parents were also present as guests.  The excitement on his face, hearing his name announced, was an exuberant end to a wonderful evening.   The generosity and support of the Gala-goers was extraordinary.   The car raffle raised over $65,000 and the Gala is projected to net after expenses over $170,000.

Many, many thanks to all who supported Curley by attending the Gala, buying raffle tickets, donating a gift or donating their time.  God bless you for your kindness.
