Advent Preparation at Curley included opportunities to raise awareness of the world-wide struggle for human rights and to contribute to local efforts to help those in need. The essay contest on "Human Rights and Franciscans International" put students in touch with an organization that strives, on a global level, to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Franciscans International includes all Franciscan families and groups and gives voice to their struggle for human rights in various parts of the world.
The assignment for students was to go to the FI website (www.franciscansinternational.org ), pick a particular struggle for human rights and write about it. Over twenty essays were turned in and the winners were as follows:
