STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

This page is dedicated to those students who exemplify the "gentleman" part of what it means to be a Curley Gentleman.   Either through an act of courage or perseverance or kindness or compassion, the student has moved a faculty or staff member to recognize his effort or virtue and bring his action to the attention of the Curley Family.  Nominations are submittd to Mrs. Kolb and the student is recognized on this webpage.  These students embody the Peace Prayer of St. Francis, "Lord make me an instrument of your peace..."

While some students are recognized on these pages, many more acts of kindness occur without anyone noticing.   The satisfaction for doing what is right, or kind, or compassionate, or courageous comes from God who sees all and never forgets.

James Bost '12

February 5, 2010

James Bost was nominated by Mr. McGinty for his honesty. These are Mr. McGinty's words:
"A couple of weeks ago Ben Andrews walked into my office and asked if anyone turned in a wallet.  He left it on the treadmill after jogging on it.  When he went back to get his wallet it was gone. I told Ben to check with the front office and he had already done that. Later that day Mr. Murphy found Ben to give him his wallet. When Ben asked who gave it to him, Mr. Murphy said, "James Bost". James saw it sitting on the treadmill and since Ben was gone he gave the wallet to Mr. Murphy and told him Ben had left it there. When I saw James the next day and told him what a nice thing he did by giving Ben's wallet to Mr. Murphy James said, "What else was I supposed to do with it?"  I wish everyone felt that way.  The world would be a better place."

"I am the President of a non-profit organization, South Baltimore Emergency Relief, Inc.  This is an emergency food pantry in South Baltimore housed in the basement of Holy Cross Church on East West Street.  Recently, Joshua volunteered to help a day at our site.  Our Director and Case Worker reported to me that Josh was a huge help putting away food, filing and sorting paperwork and cleaning tasks.  After working at our pantry Josh volunteered to help us the night of our Silent Auction.  This is an annual fundraiser to help raise much needed funding to keep our doors open. Josh worked several hours performing any and all tasks needed to help us make the night a success.  He even stood out in the rain hanging signs!  What a trooper!  Additionally, he brought his Mom and Dad who brought a gift for our auction.  He is shining example of the wonderful young men our school sends out in the community to make the world a better place."
