On Friday evening, the Varsity Friars of Curley started their home game against St. Paul’s looking at the wrong side of a 0-7 run by St. Pauls.  The team had just honored their seniors, Dinari  Boykin, Sam Walter, Isaiah Brown, Jonas Bradshaw and Andrew Parker. Not the start the Friars wanted.

At haftime, the Friars were still down 19-26. But the second half would be different.  By the end of the 3rd Quarter, the Friars trailed by 1 and regulation ended in a 49-49 tie.  In overtime the Friars played good defense and got their shots to fall, ending in a 63-54 overtime win.

Coach Darnell Hopkins had this to say: “I am very proud of how the team fought back. We defended better in the second half and on the offensive end of the floor guys shared the ball and was very unselfish. Very proud of our seniors Dinari, Sam and Isaiah for showing leadership in overtime. Cayne Woodland ran the team very well as a freshman. Also got huge minutes from Michael Hicks. Him and Alex Krisher hit big shots to close the game out. ”

Both teams travel to Frederick today (Monday) to play St. John’s.
