Made for Now – Civil Rights Today

As part of our Black History Month celebration, our Community Prayer—hosted by the Black Student Union—presented a powerful and timely assembly focused on the ongoing work of civil rights leaders today.

Under the theme “Made for Now – Civil Rights Today,” students had the opportunity to hear directly from leaders of historic civil rights organizations who are actively shaping change in our communities.

We were honored to welcome:

  • Terri D. Mason, First Vice President of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW)
  • Tershea Rice, Interim CEO of the Greater Baltimore Urban League

Both speakers shared insights into how their organizations continue the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement by addressing issues such as education equity, economic empowerment, advocacy, and community development. They challenged our students to recognize that civil rights work is not only history—it is present, active, and essential.

The assembly reinforced that today’s generation is truly “Made for Now,” called to lead, serve, and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
