With nearly three decades of experience in education, Mrs. Toledo is a dedicated and dynamic educator committed to empowering students through culturally responsive teaching and innovative programming. Beginning her teaching journey in 1996, she has cultivated a rich career across multiple educational settings, consistently championing equity, creativity, and student success.
For ten years, she served in Washington, D.C., as a Dual Language Program teacher, fostering bilingualism and biliteracy in diverse classrooms. Her passion for access and opportunity led her to Anne Arundel Community College, where she spent another decade as the Coordinator of the Adelante Program, an EBS (English Basic Skills) instructor, and an Admissions Advisor—roles that allowed her to support first-generation and multilingual students in navigating higher education.
In recognition of her invaluable service and dedication to validating Hispanic culture while introducing Hispanic/Latino students to college-level work and new expectations on a college campus, she received an Executive Citation during the 6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month and Binational Health Week in 2015. This honor reflects her unwavering commitment to cultural representation and educational equity.
Following two years of service in Prince George’s County Public Schools, she joined Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore, where she spent six transformative years teaching Spanish, drama, and photojournalism, while also serving as the Career Launch Coordinator. In this multifaceted role, she guided students in professional development, career exploration, and workplace readiness, aligning with Cristo Rey’s mission to prepare students for college and career success.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Toledo has been recognized for her commitment to student-centered learning, creative curriculum design, and advocacy for underrepresented communities. Her work reflects a deep belief in the power of education to transform lives and build bridges across cultures.
Born on the enchanted island of Puerto Rico (where the coquí frogs sing you to sleep), I am the third of four kids—which means I mastered the art of negotiating snacks and bathroom time from an early age. I eventually traded Caribbean breezes for Maryland winters when I got married, and has been happily hitched for 28 years, raising three amazing children and two cats who think they’re in charge (they’re not wrong).
My hobbies include power-walking around the harbor like I am training for a Netflix-sponsored marathon, devouring thriller novels faster than you can say “plot twist,” and binge-watching anime with the emotional commitment of a teenager. Equal parts tropical soul and city sass, I am living proof that you can take the girl out of Puerto Rico, but you can’t take the Puerto Rico out of the girl.
